Sunday School for our elementary-aged friends
Sunday School is available for children preschool through 6th Grade during our Sunday 10 a.m. service. In the summer we have an all ages class, and from Aug-May we have two age groups (preschool-2nd grade, and 3rd grade-6th grade). We are finishing up with the Whole People of God curriculum, as the publisher is closing their business. We are excitedly looking at new curriculum for 2023 fall. Whole People of God is a lectionary-based program that uses creative storytelling and activities to bring Bible stories to life. Each of our Sunday School leaders brings their own personality and skills to the program. Our leaders have done training to ensure a safe space for all learners and seekers, including the Diocesan training for anti-abuse and our own internal training to learn more about how to create creative space for kids with varying needs.
Being part of the Big Community
After Sunday School, children are escorted by their teachers to rejoin parents during the Peace, at approximately 10:45 a.m. Children remain with their families for the Eucharist and end of the service.
Two children volunteer to stand at the altar each Sunday for the Eucharist prayers and are the first to receive communion as a symbol that we are all equally important in God's kin-dom.
Children and Youth also participate in services by being readers, playing music, and acolyting. Acolytes are trained in the fall and help light candles, carry the cross during the processional and recessional, and assist the clergy with preparing the table for the Eucharist. If you would like to be an acolyte, talk to Jessica on Sunday.
